New Zealand farmers have been advised to stop using a popular stock feed, copra, because it may contain cancer-causing contaminants. Although Fonterra has advised farmers to stop feeding out the stock feed to lactating cows, it has only done so on the advice of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority. Fonterra says the feed is safe for dry cows.
Being involved in many concerns of official blunders over the years including the dioxin poisoning issue - confirmed among other things, that milk and meat was being contaminated and passed though the food chain on to humans then on to their children through breast - feeding. From past blunders you would think the New Zealand Safety Authority would stop all use of the feed, and quarantine copra - based stockpiles untilll further notice. The New Zealand Food Safety Authiority and Fonterra are putting the country,s reputation at risk by not taking stronger action. The other questions that need to be asked, how long has the Fonterra and the New Zealand Safety Authority been aware of this cancer risk, and has any Fonterra product with the likely contaminants been released for Human consumption already.
